Our Vision

Elkhorn Station showcases the successful preservation of small town America with brick streets, historic reproduction and a collection of restaurants, quaint specialty shops and a popular gathering place true to the friendly atmosphere of a simpler time.

Visitors to the western Douglas County community are reminded of the colorful past of the railroad town in the restored historic buildings, the unique train viewing area and the popular stretch of original Lincoln Highway.

Thanks to the efforts of the Elkhorn Station Main Street Organization, the area is excitingly unique but maintains the familiarity of friendly faces. Mothers walking with strollers are as comfortable as college students enjoying refreshments on the outdoor patio of the coffee houses and restaurants.

Downtown retail shops flourish and meet the needs of local residents while attracting the tourist who wants a safe, convenient and comfortable place to hand out, away from the hustle of urban sprawl at a laid back pace. Baby boomers, adults with children, people who like small towns and unique shopping feel at home in Elkhorn Station. The railroad and farming traditions are brought to life at the Farmer’s Market and other events held trackside and up and down Main Street.

Restaurants, hotels and meeting places attract visitors from the metro area who are looking for a lively experience to share with friends. Interpretive signage explains the rich history of the community and the vibrant and culturally diverse atmosphere makes it stand out on the map.
